The collage in this painting are illustrations from an old book I found
antiquing last week. I found the reference photo in the same shop. I
didn't know if I'd have the heart to tear up the book, but when it came
down to it, I had no problem.
I started this as a demo in my past workshop and it took on many transformations since then. I used a charcoal drawing that I drew from an old photograph of an ancestor as my reference. I encountered new challenges - as you will with any painting, but some have more than others. I like to try to pick up colors from the paper to use in the face. Sometimes I feel like I am reinventing the wheel with each painting. Ceci and Maureen, this one's for you!
Ya... feels good to paint in oil again. I was waylaid with a painting on glass commission for a friend. She's opening a restaurant. I hope to show you them after they have been installed. It was a fun diversion.
