Bundled Up - SOLD

10x8 oil on linen panel
SOLD
I actually worked from two different photos for this one and struggled with my palette. I really intended to try to make it a little warmer than it is, but alas, the purple and blue prevailed.

Flamin' Red - SOLD

20 x 16 collage and oil on stretched canvas
SOLD

I did the painting below about 15 years ago, right after I finished my art degree. I was working from the same sources and the same wallpaper even back then. I guess I just never got it out of my system.

Blue Shoulder - SOLD

7x5 mixed media on board - SOLD

This is a re-do. I had sprayed it with fixative and messed her all up. She needed to be done over. Boy howdy! Did I ever struggle trying to figure out what color I wanted to make her. (Reference: antique mug shot). I really liked the blue and green, so I tried to stick with them.

A Lot on Her Mind #2 - SOLD

14x11 oil and collage on stretched canvas
SOLD

First I would like to say "hats off" to all those who paint in a non-representational abstract fashion and can pull it off effectively. It is tricky.
I used less paint in the upper part of this painting than I did with the first (yesterday's). The marks you see are from the paper, old water colors. I felt it worked, and if I went back into it, I would just be changing it.

A Lot on Her Mind - SOLD

14x11 oil and collage on stretched canvas
SOLD

After I painted in the figure (and even before), I was not sure how I was going to resolve the rest of the canvas. After I put down some pieces of paper, the painting was telling me it wanted to go abstract, yet I was still unsure how I was going to pull that off. I set it aside and thought I would finish it in pastels after the oil dried. I felt it needed a companion, so I started another one (which I'll post tomorrow) in the same fashion. After I put down the pieces of paper on this second one, I stood back and started to laugh. It looked like she had a lot on her mind. Mind you, these images are from antique mug shots. So, I decided to finish the first one in this "a lot on her mind" theme. I was too impatient to wait for the paint to dry, so I finished her in paint.

Tap Dancer - SOLD

14x11 pastel on pastel board
This is my niece, Molly, from Fairbanks, Alaska. The photo I used as reference was priceless. Unfortunately, I couldn't capture her expression and smile which really were the frosting on the cake. The pastels were too clunky for any great detail. But this outfit and pose are so indicative of who she is (as I know her anyway, Fairbanks is a furr piece from NH.) - a delight!

This is another pastel I did last May, but never posted it on my blog. I just LOVE the woods this time of year.
